Regionals dominate August Napchecker table

As any serious punter will know, the search for suitable bets is a time consuming activity. So anything that will make this process easier must be welcomed. This is particularly true at the moment with bookmakers teasing us with enhanced odds offers that are available for limited time-periods, making every second count. This is where Napchecker can help. All newspaper tips available in one place – no scouring the web or early morning trips to the newsagent. Another advantage of Napchecker is that regional newspaper tips are listed alongside the nationals and the Racing Post, ensuring that all angles are covered.

This was particularly apposite this month, as the tipsters from regional papers were in great form, claiming four of the top five positions in the August naps table with only the Racing Post’s Spotlight preventing a whitewash.

With seven winning naps during August, the Sheffield Star’s Fortunatus, finished top of the pile, thanks to winners of the calibre of 9/1 Twentysvnthlancers (Carlisle, 31 August), 11/2 Gin In the Inn (Pontefract, 14 August) and 4/1 Poole Belle (Salisbury, 2 August). The month ended with a pleasing 3.3-point profit to SP, a figure that would be significantly higher for punters who were able to utilise Best Odds Guaranteed offers.

West Tip of the Western Morning News, finished in second spot with a 1.6-point yield with Hilldale (5/1, Pontefract, 14 August) and 9/2 Mount Moriah (Kempton, 24 August) helping to swell the coffers.

The Wagon Wheel, a 6/1 winning nap at York (17 August) guided Simpson of the Blackpool Gazette to third place in August. Simpson finished August with a 0.3-point profit having secured 11 winners from 30 naps (37% strike-rate).

Two attractively priced winning naps at York’s Ebor Meeting, were the highlight of August for the Racing Post’s Spotlight service, who finished fourth in the monthly table. Oceane (7/1) triumphed in the Equinity Handicap on day one (17 August), while Heartbreak City won the Ebor on the closing day (20 August) at 15/2.

Barsanti (5/1) was one of two successful naps for the Yorkshire Post’s The Duke, at the big local meeting on the Knavesmire. A 33% strike-rate earned fifth place in the August table.

Among the tabloids, The Daily Express’ Scout fared best, finishing in sixth position. Winners included, Lightning Spear, a 4/1 Goodwood victor on 27 August. Patrick Weaver of the Daily Star found 12 winning naps during the month producing, as usual, a very respectable 39% strike-rate, while Yorkidding (6/1, Newmarket, 27 August) brought joy to followers of the Sun’s Templegate.

Although Simpson’s August profit was modest, the Blackpool Gazette’s tipster extended his lead in the overall 2016 table. With four months of the year to go, Simpson boasts a 28.1-point profit. The Racing Post’s Ratings service are second on 12.8 points with Fortunatus of the Sheffield Star third on12.3 points and Glendale of the Scotsman fourth with a 5.1-point yield.
